Gronk: A Monster's Story

Gronk: A Monster's Story by Katie Cook

What a cute story this is!  I can definitely see my sixth grade graphic novel lovers reading this book.  Everything about it is cute, the drawings, the characters, everything.

What I Liked: Cute story, lovable characters,

What I didn't like: story was too young for me :)  (but most of the graphic novels my students enjoy are too young for me)

This book is probably best for upper elementary or middle school

Pride and Prejudice Manga

Pride and Prejudice Manga Classics by Stacy King (adapter) and Po Tse (illustrator)

I was so impressed with this book.  Before I read it, I figured there was no way that they would be able to keep the important themes and scenes in the book if they made a manga version with approximately the same number of pages as the original.  I was proven wrong.

I haven't read Pride and Prejudice in awhile, but I did read Pride and Prejudice and Zombies not that long ago.  This one definitely kept to the original story more.

What I liked: kept true to the story, was a fast read, could be a good way to hook students who don't read into the classics

What I didn't like:  the Manga style of drawing doesn't always fit well with how people would look in the time period of the book

Seeker by Arwen Elys Dayton

I just finished Seeker by Arwen Elys Dayton.  It was so hard to put it down!  This is definitely not my "type" of book which makes it that much more amazing that I was so entranced.

What I liked: constant action driving you forward, you can relate to the characters, characters aren't necessarily good or evil, questioning what justice really is, loved Maud, made me want to read a Sci Fi book

What I didn't like: the first chapter didn't hook me, luckily I read the 2nd chapter because that one did; when the setting was in Scotland, I didn't necessarily feel like I was in Scotland, it felt like I could have been anywhere; nothing seemed to wrap up at the ending

I give it a 9/10.  I think it will be popular with many of my big readers.

Henni by Miss Lasko-Gross

I just finished Henni by Miss Lasko-Gross.

What I liked:  artwork is superb, question blind faith, and girl power

What I didn't like: no new take on corrupt church officials, and same old same old male dominated society that women must break free from

I give it a 5/10.  Didn't hate it, but didn't touch me in any way.
